The Classic Boat Museum is proud to display INEOS BRITANNIA (RB2), the British entry for the 2021 America’s Cup held in New Zealand. Having competed in the round-robin races for the Prada Cup, the boat was flown back to England and donated to the Classic Boat Museum for display in Cowes.
The boat is a 75 foot foiling monohull, capable of speeds of over 40 knots, with a crew of 11 on board. She is held in a cradle on the banks of the River Medina, outside the Classic Boat Museum, close by the Floating Bridge.
Also on display is one of the foil arms which was built by the Museum’s team of restorers, along with a rudder also built here. Inside the Museum shed we have on display one of the two foils which was donated with the boat. The foils lift the boat out of the water and allow her to race at these spectacular speeds.
The latest BRITANNIA, (Race Boat 3, RB3) is in Barcelona in an attempt to win the America’s Cup and bring it back to the Royal Yacht Squadron (RYS) in Cowes. The origin of the Cup comes from a race around the Isle of WIght in 1851 when 15 yachts of the RYS lost to the yacht America.
BRITANNIA will be on display until the end of October when the museum closes for the winter.
