In December 2024 the museum was visited by Mattia Valanzano who owns Ambler, a1928 RNLI lifeboat which was built in Sam Saunders yard on the Isle of Wight. Mattia is now restoring the vessel and is intending to sail her back across the Atlantic to her original homeport in time for her 100th birthday in 2028.
Mattia has just sent and update on Ambler saying that he has begun the full hull rebuild in Guatemala. Which he describes as "a big, exciting (and sometimes overwhelming) milestone in the journey to get Ambler ready for her 100th birthday".
To support this phase of the project, Mattia has launched a crowdfunding campaign alongside the release of an illustrated book he has written and drawn, which tells Ambler’s full story — from her rescue days in Swanage to sailing the world and her rebirth today.

Ambler is a self-righting motor lifeboat originally built for the RNLI and commissioned as the Thomas Markby in Swanage. She was renamed SV Ambler at a later point in her subsequent long career of navigating the globe. She is similar to the Classic Boat Museum's Jesse Lumb the 1939 Bembridge lifeboat.
