Official Naming of Vigia

The official naming ceremony of the cat boat Vigia took place in July 2024  during a rare bout of wonderful weather. Donated to the museum but needing a lot of work, Vigia became a complete rebuild project for the team of volunteers at the Boat Shed in Cowes and over the last 10 years they worked tirelessly to replace all the sections of the vessel to reflect its former glory. Vigia was successfully launched (with some trepidation) on July 3rd and officially named on the 6th. What a sight to behold! Particular thanks to Rod Moody, David Mathias, Jill and Nick Bredon and Rhyddian Williams plus all the other volunteers who have worked on Vigia and helped make this project a success.

A community effort also ensured the safe launching of Vigia with many thanks to the Cowes Waterfront Trust, to Cowes Yacht Haven for a berth, to Jeremy Dale of SeaSafe Systems for the bespoke monogrammed buoyancy bags to ensure Vigia was safe in the water; to Solent Sails for the fenders to protect her; to Mark Matthews of Sail Solutions for the new sails; to Gurit for the copious amounts of resin for her rebuild, and to the Forestry Commission on the Island for the single pine tree for a new mast.

Thank you to Gurit for featuring the event in their Marine Newsletter. Read more here:
